We discovered that our roof started leaking in the winter of 2026. Working in the construction industry for nearly 30-years and being the deputy director for the Bureau of Construction Codes, I knew I needed to do my due diligence by researching qualified licensed contractors and vetting them thoroughly. I decided on considering only roofing contractors as this is their construction specialty. I vetted four highly reputable and highly rated roofers. When Alex showed up to evaluate our leaking roof, he went into the attic to examine the underneath of the sheathing boards and then walked the roof to find the soft spots where boards would need to be replaced. He also measured our roof and took notes regarding the roof valleys, vents, and chimney flashing. Alex explained every step of the job his team would do including pulling the building permit, sheathing board replacement, installing underlayment, ice & water shield, starter shingles, Owens Corning Duration Flex shingles, flashing, ridge venting, and getting initial and final inspections. Later that same day, he emailed me the quote which was detailed, itemized, easily understandable, and included material specifications, a 20-year Workmanship Warranty, Owens Corning Preferred Contractor certificate, copies of their liability insurance and Michigan roofing license, and BBB accreditation. Based upon this information, I knew Alex was genuinely invested in my project and proud of his company. After I executed the contract and made the 50% deposit, we scheduled a date that worked for both our schedules. Alex and his team showed up on time and got to work immediately. Javier, Alex's partner, was on site a majority of the day overseeing the work of their crew and getting any additional materials needed. Both owners being on site and checking in with me periodically to go over any unknown issues shows the true character and dedication of this family owned business. At the completion of the project, Alex and Javier went over everything their team did and wanted to make sure I was completely satisfied. Alex, Javier, and their team are a class act, and I confidently recommend them for any residential roofing project. We already had a significant rain and no leaks. Our home owners insurance decreased by $457 this year due to the new roof and shingles, impact 4 resistant, they recommended. Thanks again A & J Roofing!
